We use rhythm sticks to begin learning
about beat and meter. We sing a song or say a chant while tapping
the sticks to the beat. Young children will experiment with the
rhythm sticks and are not expected to know how to tap to the
beat. The learning process begins as they hear others tapping to
the beat. Then, they begin trying to tap to the beat and soon are
able to tap it correctly.
